โLife is a lottery.โ ๐
But where you’re born can drastically shape your future and even how long you live. ๐
In Europe, babies born this year can expect to live over 80 years.
But across the Mediterranean, in Africa, life expectancy is on average 14 years lower.
In some African countries, life expectancy is below 60. That’s a 20+ year difference vs European averages.
This week for MakeoverMonday, I visualised life expectancy across 238 nations.
For this dashboard, I explored creating a gauge chart.
Gauges are generally not considered data viz best practice, but I wanted to stretch my skills and try something new.
Huge thanks to Kevin Flerlage for his amazing blog on gauge charts and for his ‘Fancy Gauge‘ solution I worked into my viz.
You can interact with my viz through a parameter-driven menu to explore insights by countries or continents.
