“If you swallow chewing gum, it takes seven years to digest!” 😮
Actually… that’s completely untrue. Gum is indigestible and passes straight through your system.
This was one of the 114 myths I explored in my latest #MakeoverMonday visualisation.
Our theme was inspired by the brilliant Common Mythconceptions chart from Information is Beautiful by David McCandless.
In a world flooded with misinformation, visual storytelling is a powerful way to cut through the noise and present facts over fiction.
For this project, I used a tree diagram to display myths hierarchically. I created my tree diagram using this incredible tool by LaDataViz. I colour-coded and grouped the myths by themes. I also sized the outer circles based on the volume of Google searches. That’s because some myths are more popular than others!
Through this project, I learned:
🍌 You can’t get high from banana peels
⏱ The “5 Second Rule” is a complete myth, because germs don’t wait
💧 Not everyone needs to drink eight glasses of water a day
