When it comes to global meat production it’s ‘winner winner chicken dinner’ 🐔
That’s because poultry led global meat production in 2023, reaching 144 million tonnes.
Chicken is the most widely produced meat on the planet, accounting for 39% of production.
Pig and beef production were also significant, but camel, horse, and game meat remained the least produced globally.

With decades of global data available, I decided to strip this one back to basics.
I focused on the latest year, 2023, and the global headlines. I used a triangle plot chart, inspired by the amazing Pablo Gomez.
¡Muchas gracias, Pablo!
I based my colour scheme on a Meat Science e-learning package I developed many years ago, while working in HE for the University of Nottingham.
